- Product Description
Sodium Formate Industrial Grade – High-Purity Chemical Solution for Multiple Industrial Applications for sodium formic acid
Shanxi Zhaoyi Chemical Co., Ltd. makes formate chemical products, and acetate salt has been part of our production experience since 1988. Our standardized production base covers 27,000 ㎡. Every year it turns out 150,000 tons. Industrial buyers across the globe come to us for sodium formic acid (sodium formate, CAS 141-53-7). The powder is white and crystalline. Purity sits at 97% or higher, and it dissolves well in water. Certification under ISO, KOSHER and HALAL standards is in place, along with other international quality marks. Molecular weight comes to 68.01 g/mol. Formic acid synthesis, leather processing, oilfield drilling fluid preparation and concrete admixture production all depend on it, and in each case it counts as a core raw material. Clients in Europe, America and Asia keep ordering from us.
Key Features & Benefits

High-purity crystalline texture is what our this product offers. In water-based solutions it dissolves fast and fully. That speeds up work on an industrial scale. Every batch comes off fully automated production control systems. Quality holds steady from one batch to the next, and downstream production avoids the performance swings that cause problems.
Breakdown does not start until 253°C, so high-temperature industrial reactions are no problem for this product. Nothing toxic goes into it. Food-grade and pharmaceutical auxiliary uses get the basic safety they need. Moisture stays below 1%. Caking during storage is unlikely as a result, shelf life stretches out, and steady use over the long term is assured. With 150,000 tons of yearly capacity and a mature global logistics system behind us, supply stays continuous and delivery stays on time for orders from home and abroad.

How It Works
This product acts as a reducing agent. It also works as a buffer in chemical reactions. Once it dissolves in water, the formate ions (HCOO⁻) join in redox reactions. There they hand electrons over to metal ions. That is why metallurgy and electroplating depend on it.
During concrete production, it moves cement hydration along and cuts the setting time. Cold weather pours then go ahead without trouble. Sodium ions in it block ice crystals from forming. So de-icing works well too. Tanning leather is one more job it takes on. Chromium salts hold steady and the pH stays level. Dye soaks in evenly because of that, and the leather comes out soft. Drilling fluids in oilfields put it to work as well. It stabilizes shale through ion exchange. Clay swelling gets held back, and the wellbore stays protected.
Applications
Leather Industry: Deliming and pickling both use it. The lime left on the hides gets neutralized there. Tanning then has a mild setting to work in. Acid corrosion does not harm the collagen fibers, so the finished leather turns out as it should.
Oilfield Services: Drilling fluids use it as a strong additive. Even in hot downhole conditions above 150°C, it holds up. Thermal behavior stays steady. Viscosity of the fluid does not drift, and the formation takes no damage. That lets drilling go ahead safely and efficiently.
Concrete Production: Winter pours get a curing accelerator out of it. Damage from freezing and thawing goes down. Strength at an early stage also builds faster. Below zero, setting efficiency improves by 20%-30%.
Chemical Manufacturing: Making formic acid, oxalic acid, and sodium hydrosulfite all relies on it as a key intermediate. In pharmaceutical synthesis it works as a hydrogen donor. Dyes and pigments are another common use.

Packaging Options for sodium formic acid
We provide standardized and customized sodium formic acid packaging solutions to meet different transportation and storage needs. The standard package is 25kg paper bags with PE inner liners for moisture proof. Plastic woven bags with enhanced moisture resistance are available on request. For bulk orders, 1000kg jumbo bags with forklift lifting loops are adopted for convenient handling.
Every package ships with printed product details. Batch numbers and hazard labels go on there too. Order in large volumes and we can print your own brand on the packaging. Export goods move on pallets with stretch wrap around them. Damage and moisture stay out, even on long hauls.

Manufacturing Process
Our production adopts mature and stable synthesis technology, taking high-purity carbon monoxide and sodium hydroxide as raw materials for reaction under precise pressure control. The crude sodium formate solution after reaction will go through multi-stage filtration, centrifugal separation and other purification processes to strictly control iron ion, chloride and other impurity contents within the standard range.
Subsequently, temperature-controlled evaporators are used for directional crystallization to ensure uniform crystal particle size and good fluidity. The final fluidized bed drying process accurately controls the moisture content below 1%. We set up five quality inspection nodes in the whole production process, with automatic titration equipment to detect product purity in real time, ensuring stable and reliable product quality for all industrial scenarios.

FAQ
Q: How long does your sodium formate last on the shelf?
A: A1: Leave the container sealed. Its shelf life is 24 months. Put it in a dry warehouse. Air should move well there. Keep it under 30°C. Humidity needs to stay low. If you store it this way, it won't soak up water or turn lumpy.
Q: Can you use this product in food-related applications?
A: A2: Yes. E237 food additive rules cover our food-grade sodium formate. In some cases it can act as a preservative. Clients still have to check that it fits the rules of their own local and regional regulators before they put it to formal use.
Q: When it comes to de-icing, what makes sodium formate different from potassium formate?
A: A3: Sodium formate gives you more value for the money, and it fits everyday de-icing at medium and low temperatures. Potassium formate corrodes metal less. That makes it the better fit for demanding jobs, such as de-icing airport runways.
Q: Why does sodium formate cake up in storage?
A: A4: Moisture absorption is the main reason the product cakes. Keep the packaging intact. Warehouse relative humidity should stay below 60%. For stock rotation, use the FIFO inventory management principle.
Q: What equipment is needed to handle this product?
A: A5: You do not need any special gear to handle it. Ordinary stainless steel or PE chemical containers work fine. This product does not corrode much. Even so, keep it away from aluminum parts that stay wet for a long time.
