Premium Sodium Formate CAS 141-53-7 | Industrial-Grade Chemical Solution for Drilling & Deicing Applications

Shanxi Zhaoyi Chemical Co., Ltd. began operations in 1988. Industrial chemicals are what we make and supply. Our standardized plant covers 27,000 ㎡. Output stays steady at 150,000 tons a year of sodium formate cas 141-53-7. This white crystalline powder melts at up to 253°C. Water solubility is high as well, 97g/100ml at 20°C. Purity grades run 92%, 95%, 98%. The compound is a high-performance organic salt (HCOONa). It biodegrades well and gives off very little COD. Because of that, it works as a non-corrosive replacement for the usual chloride-based compounds. The product carries ISO, KOSHER, and HALAL certifications. Brines made from it can reach a top specific gravity of 1.3 g/cm³. Deicing work that is friendly to the environment uses it often, and so does oil and gas drilling that sets high standards. Even at -20°C, its deicing performance holds steady.

about Shanxi Zhaoyi Chemical Co., Ltd.

Key Features & Benefits

Non-Corrosive Infrastructure Protection: Our sodium formate (CAS 141-53-7) blocks oxidation and electrochemical corrosion. Steel rebars are shielded. Concrete structures are too. So are aircraft aluminum alloys. Traditional chloride salts fail to do this. Upkeep costs fall over time, and public infrastructure lasts longer. So do bridges and runways.

Thermal Resilience: In HPHT drilling environments above 200°C, it keeps its qualities stable. Fluid breakdown is prevented, so wellbore operation continues without interruption even in harsh conditions. The decomposition point is 253°C.

Environmentally Compliant: It breaks down fully, and the BOD it gives off is very low. Because of that, strict discharge rules are met anywhere in the world. You also skip paying for expensive upgrades to your sewage treatment works.

Versatile Density management: Brines with no solids are now within reach. Formation pressure can then be controlled with precision. Damage to the reservoir stays away, and so do blockages. Density is set exactly, and 1.92 is the highest specific gravity you can reach.

Quick dissolving Performance: Solubility reaches 97g/100mL at 20°C. It dissolves fast and even, so nothing precipitates and no clumps appear. Mixing on site takes less time, and that lifts operational effectiveness.

How It Works

sodium formate cas 141-53-7 does its job without surprises. Two routes are at play here, one physical and one chemical. That mix is why so many industries can put it to use.

Shale Inhibition Mechanism: Clay can no longer soak up water and swell inside water-sensitive shale. The osmotic pressure of the drilling fluid shifts, and that is how it works. Outside water molecules cannot get into the shale layers, since the ionic structure sits so tight. Wellbore integrity then stays intact. Collapse and shrinking become far less likely.

Reducing Action: When hides are tanned, the formate group acts as a reducing agent and also as a masking agent. Chromium gets wrapped up by it, and it spreads evenly through the hide. Fixation is slow, and it holds steady. Consistency goes up because of this, and so does the quality of the leather you end up with.

Freezing Point Depression: Once the temperature drops, ice crystals cannot grow or form at all. The eutectic point of the system gets pushed down to -20°C. Deicing works well. So does anti-freezing. Corrosion never reaches the metal equipment and infrastructure.

pH Buffering: In textile dyeing, the pH of the solution is held steady between 7.0 and 8.5 by this mild acid-salt buffer. Dye fixing stays consistent and solid. Fabric damage does not happen, and neither does yellowing. Better overall quality comes out of the dyeing process too.

Applications

Oil & Gas Drilling Fluids: Deep-sea wells and HPHT operations are a good match for it. Into clear, solids-free brines you can blend it, at a density range of 1.0-1.3 g/cm³. Steady control keeps formation pressure in check. Stratum swelling and reservoir damage do not happen. Stuck pipe failures become fewer, and the drilling speed and efficiency rise.

Airport Runway Deicing: Rock salt eats away at anything it touches. This one breaks down on its own instead. Even at -20°C it stays stable, so aluminum aircraft parts and concrete runway surfaces don't get damaged. Upkeep costs can drop by about 40% next to common chloride deicers.

Leather Tanning Agent: Tanneries use it to mask chrome. It helps chromium tanning agents spread evenly through the hide before fixation. Soft, fine leather comes out, and it cuts well. Each batch stays the same.

Textile Processing: Chlorine gets stripped off bleached fabric. The pH holds steady while reactive dyeing runs. Yellowing stops. Dye uptake climbs, so colors hold up better. Textile goods also stand a better chance of passing international quality standards.

Concrete Accelerator: In cold weather, this additive pushes the cement hydration reaction along faster. Steel rebars do not rust. Crews keep pouring right through winter. That holds the schedule together, and the finished work still meets the spec.

Packaging Options

Standard Industrial Pack: Every bag holds 25kg. The outer shell is multi-layer kraft paper, and a PE liner inside keeps moisture out. Each pallet carries 40 bags, 1000kg in total. That load suits manual handling and normal freight transport alike.

Bulk Shipping: Our FIBC jumbo bags hold 1000kg each. They are built from UV-resistant polypropylene and come with four lifting loops. A forklift can move them with no trouble. That makes them a good fit for moving bulk goods in very large volumes.

Custom Solutions: Private labeling is something we take on. So is packaging in the weights you pick. For custom packaging, the smallest order we accept is 20 tons. That way each industrial buyer can source the way they need to.

Packaging and Shipping

Manufacturing Process

We make high-purity sodium formate for industry and for pharma. The route we use is the pentaerythritol by-product method, and it has a long track record. Inside our reactors, raw formic acid gets neutralized with high-purity sodium hydroxide. Temperature there stays under close watch at all times. Multi-stage crystallization follows that step. Impurities then come out through centrifugal separation.

We run the final products through professional spray drying equipment. Moisture stays under 1.5% at all times. Before packing and shipping, every batch must stay consistent. So the whole line has automated QC checks. These systems pull samples and run strict tests. They look at product purity. They check pH. Heavy metal content gets tested too. Other key markers are checked as well.

Our Customer

FAQ

Q: Which purity grade should be used for drilling fluid applications?

A: A1: For standard HPHT drilling jobs, the 95% purity grade is the one to use. Offshore sites in sensitive areas are a different case. There, the 98% high-purity grade fits better. Environmental rules in those places are tight. Harm to the surroundings has to stay low.

Q: What makes sodium formate a better pick than potassium formate for deicing?

A: A2: At low temperatures it deices just as well. The freezing point drops by the same amount too. And it costs 30% less. Only in extreme sub-arctic places below -25°C does potassium formate make sense. For nearly every other case, sodium formate is the cheaper option.

Q: In concrete accelerator work, can it stand in for urea every time?

A: A3: Yes. It does the job of a concrete accelerator in place of urea. Setting moves faster. Early strength comes up higher too. Urea products often bring an ammonia smell and dusting on the surface. Those problems do not happen here. On site, the result is better.

Q: How should the product be stored to keep it from caking?

A: A4: The product belongs in a dry warehouse with good airflow. Relative humidity has to stay below 60%. Packaging should stay sealed. Put the goods on pallets. Ground moisture then stays away. That keeps the product from taking in water. No lumps will form.

Q: Does your company give technical support for formula development?

A: A5: Yes. Our engineering team offers free technical advice built around your needs. That includes setting concentration and getting the additive match right. We do this so everything fits the parameters you use in production and application.
