Formic Acid Sodium Salt – Premium Industrial Grade Chemical for Multi-Industry Applications

SHANXI ZHAOYI CHEMICAL CO., LTD started making chemicals in 1988. That adds up to over 35 years in the trade. We supply industrial-grade formic acid sodium salt. Our plant covers 27,000 m². Every year it turns out 150,000 tons of acetate series products. That keeps your supply steady. The substance is a white crystal. It carries CAS 141-53-7. Molecular weight is 68.01 g/mol. Organic synthesis depends on it. Oilfield drilling uses it too. Leather tanning also puts it to work. Water dissolves it easily. From one batch to the next, purity holds steady. Moisture (≤1.0%) stays under the industry limit. Calcium (≤0.5%) does as well. Our ISO, KOSHER and HALAL certificates back that up.

about Shanxi Zhaoyi Chemical Co., Ltd.

Key Features & Benefits

Solubility & Purity

Our this product reaches an assay of 99.0% at the lowest. It also breaks down in water very easily. Dye baths at textile plants and concrete mixing lines then never sit waiting for it to dissolve.

Stable Under Heat in Demanding Processes

The compound keeps its structure together up to 253°C. At that mark, it breaks down. That kind of steady performance helps in high-temperature leather tanning.

Multi-Functional Industrial Workhorse

It acts as a buffering agent. The same compound also works as a reducing agent. That gives your formulations more range, from drilling fluid stabilization to chemical intermediate production.

Environmentally Responsible Choice

This product is less toxic than other formate salts. You can keep running at full efficiency. Stricter rules on environmental discharge are still met.

How It Works

Once it is in water, the molecule splits apart into ions. That process is called ionic dissociation. Off come the sodium cations (Na⁺). What is left, the formate anions (HCOO⁻), can then behave as a weak base or as a nucleophile.

During leather tanning, formate ions work their way into the collagen fibers. Their job is to hold pH at the level where chromium fixation reaches its peak. Sudden drops in pH are blocked by the buffering effect. Harm could be masked by dips like those.

In oilfield drilling, dissolved formate ions are used to make the fluid denser. Shale also stays steadier. After the liquid evaporates, the crystal structure builds back up. That leaves reversible systems for fluid recovery.

Heat makes this compound break down, so it acts as a CO source in organic synthesis. Carbon monoxide then comes out in a controlled way for carbonylation reactions. You never have to handle gaseous CO.

Applications

Leather Processing Industry

It keeps basification rates under control during chrome tanning. Dye penetration across your operations ends up even, and color fastness improves by 15-20%.

Oilfield Services

It is used to make high-density drilling fluids, up to 2.3 g/cm³. In shale zones, clay inhibition brings formation damage down.

Textile Manufacturing

Vat dyeing uses it as a reducing agent. On polyester and cotton blends, the color comes out even.

Concrete Technology

Cement hydration speeds up when it is cold. Curing rates in winter projects hold steady down to -5°C.

Pharmaceutical Intermediates

Acidification turns it into formic acid. Controlled-release API synthesis is then possible, and by-products stay low.

Packaging Options for formic acid sodium salt

Standard formic acid sodium salt Industrial Packaging

The bags are made of multi-layer paper. Each one holds 25 kg, with a polyethylene liner on the inside. Load 40 of them on a pallet and you have 1,000 kg. That helps you fit more into every container.

Bulk Solutions

500 kg jumbo bags available for high-volume users. Reduces packaging waste by 60% compared to standard bags.

Custom Packaging

We accommodate specialized requirements for pharmaceutical-grade applications. Options include moisture-barrier foil pouches from 1-10 kg.

Packaging and Shipping

Manufacturing Process

Step 1: Reaction to Neutralization

Sodium hydroxide solution meets high-purity formic acid inside reactors where the temperature is controlled. The reaction gives off heat. Handle that exothermic heat the right way and the product will not break down.

Phase Two: Crystallization

Controlled evaporation lifts the solution to its supersaturation point. Seed crystals then begin particle growth that stays even. As a result, the mesh size comes out uniform.

Stage 3: Separation & Drying

Centrifugal filtration removes the mother liquor. Flash drying runs after that, with humidity kept in check. Final moisture sits under the 1.0% target.

Stage 4: Quality Verification

Automated sampling checks every batch. It tests assay and heavy metals. Particle size distribution gets measured too. Packaging authorization comes only after that.

Why Choose Us

Three-Decade Manufacturing Heritage

Back in 1988 we started fine-tuning how we run production. That work removes the impurities most suppliers still deal with. Send us your specs. Every batch you get then holds to the same quality standard.

Integrated Supply Chain Control

Our raw materials come straight from certified formic acid makers. With no middlemen in the chain, you avoid extra markups. Traceability also stays intact.

Technical Application Support

Our chemists provide dosage optimization guidance for your specific processes. Complimentary sample testing accelerates your product validation timelines.

Global Logistics Network

We have used the same freight partners for years. Goods reach Europe, America, and Asia with no problems. We confirm your order. After that, your containerized shipment arrives in 15-20 days.

FAQ

Q: What makes industrial grade sodium formate different from the food grade type?

A: For industrial grade, heavy metal caps are looser. The lead limit is ≤10ppm vs. ≤2ppm. Food grade also needs extra microbial testing, and the plant has to pass audits that meet FDA rules.

Q: Can this product be used in drilling fluids instead of sodium formate?

A: Both names refer to one and the same compound (this product = sodium formate). Check that your specifications match our technical data sheet.

Q: How does moisture content affect storage stability?

A: Above 2% moisture, the product can clump up while it sits in storage. Our ≤1.0% specification holds shelf life at 24 months in the original sealed packaging.

Q: Why does stored material turn yellow?

A: Oxidation starts with even a trace of iron. Iron content is kept at ≤20ppm on our side. That stops color shifts in normal storage.

Q: Can this material be used with alkaline drilling mud systems?

A: Yes. Bentonite-based muds handle that pH range (7.0-9.0) without a problem. The clay suspension keeps its properties.
